This observation tower functions as a viewing platform out toward the flamingo wetland reserve of the Al Wathba Wildlife Reserve. Emerging as a tesselated structure, the tower takes influence from the crystalised salt structures found on site. An abstraction of this salt structure was also incorporated into tessellated form of the boardwalk.
The tapering of the structure provides a sense of enclosure, whilst also being reminiscent of the nesting grounds of flamingos. The procession into the tower involves shielding of views, with carefully selected openings in the tower’s shading screen, ultimately revealing a complete view at the end of the tower’s ascension.
